Aquaculture business is growing fast with new species being bought to the table. Everything from salmon, warm water prawns and stone bass through to seaweeds.
Inevitably these farmed species will take pressure off wild stocks and it is widely recognised that although we eat up to 50% of farmed product - that is set to grow to 75% in the next few years.
Much of our day to day protein is farmed and has been for years, but we seem to have a negative image around fish farming which doesn't promote the huge benefits of growing our own.
Our UPDATE YOUR KNOWLEDGE - AQUACULTURE day includes an early morning market visit looking at the wide range of farmed product available on the market.
We serve farmed smoked salmon on bagels for breakfast followed by a 75 minute presentation from a couple of experts about choosing sustinably farmed seafood.
The day continues with a cutting and tasting session of the product available. We wll try to include the wild alternative.
